The artifact began as a quick material test after handmade Indian paper failed through severe structure and warping.
Ordinary printer paper was selected to test the opposite condition: an almost textureless surface.
Its importance is threefold:
- Substrate becomes an active experimental variable rather than a passive background.
- The smooth surface records transfer, compression, intermittent contact, partial pickup, transparency, mixture, and smudging.
- Because the sheet was treated as disposable, conscious supervision withdrew. This “unguarded condition” became part of the artifact’s causal history.
The work distinguishes three layers:
- Trajectile — the bodily event.
- Recording — the material deposit created through the medium–surface encounter.
- Preservation — the ability of that record to survive.
Its limitation belongs to preservation, not to the success of the trajectile.
